RADIX JUNIOR ARCHIVE 2009

Study

Every day, we get down to study from 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm.On Saturdays, we put in more hours and last term, we had Shefo's grandmother carry out revision with class 3s (9 year olds).

Community Service

Being young, the best thing we did this year was to spend time with other children who are less privileged. We thus visited Nyumbani Children Home and Kibagare where other than the little goodies we had taken for them, we also did some cleaning of the compound, picking litter and played with the children who live here. We gave our best and look forward to the next visit.

Fashion

'In matters of dress, we must press on and overcome ourselves until our mirrored reflection is one that is both fashionable and dignified. (Mary Andras,-Catholic Position Papers No.305). This was put into consideration in the inspiring talk by Mrs. Musau, a club parent. All went home knowing that dressing with taste and modesty enhances the person and makes life more pleasant for others.

Cookery (31st Jan, 28th Feb, 16th May, 18th Jul, 26th Sept)

All the participants did put in their hands. Mrs. Bosita, a mother in the club gave the session on how to make Chapati and stew."My daughter makes us beef stew without tomatoes and it's really tasty..."commented Mrs. Njagagua, a Club mother.

Journalisim & Photography.

We had a chance to visit Nation Media Group just to see what happens behind the scenes. We went through the production process and were filmed for a children's program which is aired every Saturday.

Marie Muli a journalist took the club members through the photography session. We went home enriched with points one ought to consider when taking a photograph.

Mid -Term Spree: 19th - 20th February

A two - day activity aimed at relaxation; a series of demanding activities. We had swimming at the Village Market and fun activities at the Rock City. The banana boat 360 was the most interesting but frightening of the activities. The next day we attempted Ngong' Hills which was no mean feat as Caroline Gachari a participant commented. It took us 5 hours and all finished which is a major achievement not forgetting growth in endurance. We look forward to the next challenge!

Mid Term Mania - 17th & 19th October

We had a good break from school in which we had a barbeque with team building activities and a visit to Lake Nakuru National Park. On the 17th, two of the Club members received their 1st Holy Communion and we were there to witness it.

April Bonanza: 2nd - 9th April

"The April Bonanza started on 2nd of April," writes Diana Wachira. "We went to the Nation Media House. We were filmed and we are going to be seen on TV. "Magdalene Odhiambo adds that "we had a chance to see some of the TV personalities.' "We also had thrilling rides at Rock City and the Banana boat was the one!" comments Mumbi Geteria.Yvonne Majimbo admits having gone on the banana boat 3 times most people felt sick after their first ride. The trek at Safari walk was thrilling with the opportunity to see animals - the big five - at such close range. The other activities in this Bonanza included Swimming at the Splash Water World where the slides were quite a thrill, social work at Kibagare, cookery at Pizza Inn where we got tips on kitchen hygiene and how to prepare different Pizzas. Later we watched a movie, did Batik and ended with a one night camp at Fish Eagles in Naivasha. "I had so much fun" comments Michelle Mugwe and to summarize Mumbi reckons, "I loved this Bonanza". We all look forward to the next Bonanza.

Camps:

Chyulu Camp: 13th - 16th August

Only those with an adventurous spirit could survive this kind of a camp. After a long drive through a rough and bumpy raod (i.e. road to Loitoktok), we finally reached our destination which was the National Park. The tents were up and we quickly settled in and all the fun and adventure begun. From eating outdoors, no lights at night and living with the fear of being attacked by wild animals as we were living in an open area, nothing was going to stop us from exploring the stalagmites, caves and water springs that were a result of a volcanic eruption that took place in this area years ago. On the last night, the elephants visited our camp site and it was quite spooky but we survived. It was worthwhile to be there.

Camp Pwani: 24th - 28th November.

After a whole year of hard work, we all looked forward to a good time of rest at the Coastal town in Kenya - Mombasa. The day came and we were off to our 4 nights 5 days camp that was to take place at Milele Beach Hotel. We were all anxious to reach and finally we were there. The activities included swimming, walks to the sea, team building activities on the beach, excursion to Haller Park and talks on different things like use of internet, clean fun, Wonna Be Contest and Christmas Art.The mentors of the camp were 6 senior club members. It is true; to enjoy yourself, you have to have a plan of different activities to do.
