RADIX JUNIOR ARCHIVE 2007Community Service ::Camps :: August Spree ::Parties :: Cookery Course:: Martin Luther King Jnr said, " Life's most urgent question is 'what are you doing for others?' " The girls took this question to heart by visiting the less fortunate of Mukuru and Kibagare slums, and The Nest Children's Home in Limuru taking with them a cheery atmosphere and a variety of foodstuff. There they learned that all one needs to be happy is a little bit of love which they lavished generously on their hosts. Paint your heart out! (3rd March)The Juniors brought their own T-shirts and canvas shoes which they painted with various artistic designs. They had fun and their creative streak came out in their beautiful and inspired works of art. Party! Party! Party! To celebrate the dawn of the holidays, the girls had a fantastic party in which they celebrated the month's birthdays and were awarded for the credits they had accumulated during the term. Credits are a system of rewarding outstanding deportment. The Ultimate Camp (1st - 4th April) Crazy olympics, water polo, super-informative talks on fashion, the home, social and table etiquette, top it off with a disco and you have a skeletal description of the ULTIMATE CAMP! The mentors were volunteer Senior Club members. It was a fantastic experience as shown by the comment made by Sheila on one of the days " ... I enjoyed every minute of the day. I loved it! It is a day to remember for the rest of my life!" The Mid Term Thrill 17th -19th October A two nights out of town camp that gave an opportunity to learn about conservation of the environment which was topped up with fishing skills.
The Ultimate Camp II (29th November - 1st December) To end the year in style, the Ultimate camp had to have its second session which was marked by sports-swimming, crazy olympics, a walk to Lake Elementaita which was really challenging as it was up hill and a 'color clashing party'.To crown the camp a movie was watched. The venue for this activity was the Lake Elementaita Lodge. This was a one week program where the Juniors got a chance to do their holiday homework and watch some movies. There was a session on news anchoring by Bernard Otieno of Nation Media Group. Mrs Otsyula a mother of Anita Otsyula, a club member, made the necessary arrangements for the activity. A visit to the Newsroom will be on the Club's next agenda. Mrs. Muya, mother of Sophie Muya and Erica Muya who are club members, facilitated an arts and crafts practical session. The participants threaded needles and learnt some simple stitches which ended up in a hair band- crunchie. The Holiday Spree ended with a visit to Mama Ngina Children's Home. This was a 6 session course that involved 12 year olds only as Michelle Gichuki reports: "Faida started a Cookery Club to prepare us for the future. Each course had a different chef to teach us. My favourite recipe was chocolate cups. The teacher was Miss Judy Limbers, a former student of Tangara School in Australia, on an exchange programe in Kenya. We first melted cooking chocolate and milk. While they were melting, my friend and I were blowing some balloons to a medium size. We then coated the balloons half-way and placed them in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes. After that we popped the balloons and carefully peeled off the cup. We then put ice cream in the cup and sat down to enjoy it. In addition to the ice cream, you can put fruits in the chocolate cup. Now, that's a recipie I would cherish forever."
